Questions and answers

Which iPads does Gradient run on?

Gradient needs iPadOS 26 or later. The on-device tutor needs an iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings.

Why is the tutor off on my iPad?

The tutor uses Apple Intelligence by default. It needs an iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings.

Without it, the tutor is off. The app shows the lesson text, and you grade your own teach-back. You can also turn on Gradient Cloud in Settings > AI engine.

Does Gradient work without internet?

Yes. Every story, figure and quiz is in the app. Everything except Gradient Cloud works offline.

What is Gradient Cloud, and what is the daily limit?

Gradient Cloud is an optional AI engine. It is off by default. You turn it on in Settings > AI engine, after a consent screen.

When it is on, the app sends your question or answer text and the related lesson section to our server. The server forwards them to a model server we run and returns the answer. Read the privacy policy for details.

The daily limits for each install are 40 tutor messages, 15 teach-back grades and 10 narrations.

How do I change my plan?

Open Settings > Learning plan.

Where do the lessons come from?

The lessons come from the open-source course AI Engineering from Scratch by Rohit Ghumare and contributors (MIT license). Gradient is an independent app built on that course. The course authors did not make Gradient and do not endorse it.

How do I start over?

Gradient has no in-app reset. Delete the app and install it again. Deleting the app deletes your reading progress, quiz results, review cards, plan and settings.

Is Gradient really free?

Yes. Gradient is free. It has no in-app purchases, no ads and no account.
